In 1966 Matt Jefferies designed a very different version of the Enterprise‘s shuttles that he felt was compromised when it came to building them. The U.S.S. Enterprise was always meant to have shuttles, but the expense of making them caused all sorts of problems. Dochterman’s model is closely modelled on Jefferies’ original sketches.

The shuttle was named after the Iranian astrologer ‘Al-Biruni’at Mike Okuda’s suggestion. The U.S.S Enterprise Shuttlecraft (Jefferies Concept) has painstakingly been recreated in die-cast with extraordinary attention to detail capturing fantail at the back of the ship.
